National Initiatives
WISE initiatives and projects include:
Directory of WISE Initiatives - an annual directory
of awards, courses, visits and initiatives available
to girls and women. It also contains a list of companies
who practise family friendly policies
Engineering Equals - a series of four booklets
to guide staff in primary schools, secondary schools
and colleges, higher education institutions and parents
on how to encourage girls and women to get interested
in engineering
WISE Up! Video - a video of women engineers
and scientists at work aimed to encourage girls to consider
a career in engineering
Flying High - a poster aimed at primary school
pupils (Key Stage 1), which includes a set of teachers'
notes
WISE Vehicle Programme - To date six vehicles
have been converted into mobile technology classrooms
where girls can sample technology at their own pace
away from the boys
Role Models Set - a collection of profiles giving
an interesting and motivating insight into the work
and lives of women scientists and engineers
WISE Conferences - regular conferences for educationalists
which are held throughout the UK
Speaking Out Project - a database of women who
give talks in schools and colleges
The WISE Brochures - outlines the campaigns
aims, details WISE projects, initiatives and literature,
and includes quotes from young girls on the subjects
of Science, Engineering and Technology.
'A girl like you...' - a colourful booklet that
introduces SET to young people in clear-cut language.
With information on WISE hands-on activities, publications,
websites and courses and scholarships for young women.
SPARK - magazines designed to 'switch on' girls
and young women to science, engineering and technology
(and have some fun at the same time).
WISE also works closely with the local and national
media.
