Working in Wales

Dr Lynne Moore - Chair WISE in Wales

Dr. Lynne Moore is a civil engineer who currently works as a senior lecturer in the School of Engineering, at Cardiff University. As well as teaching budding engineers, Lynne conducts research work in such wide ranging areas as Artificial Intelligence in Engineering Design and the development of on line technology for engineering training. As part of this research she supervises a number of students studying for higher degrees such as PhD's and manages a number of prestigious contracts, the largest of which is worth £0.75m.

Lynne also wears a number of other hats: as well as being Chair of WISE in Wales she also chairs a large European group of engineers who all work in developing artificial intelligence techniques. This group has members from all over Europe as well as representatives from the United States and Australia. Being chair of this group enables her to travel extensively and to work with people from other countries to learn about their work. In the time that is left over Lynne also presents science based television programmes for HTV Wales: 'What on Earth?' is a science magazine programme aimed at teenagers but seems to watched by everyone as it puts science over in a friendly way. She also works with BBC Wales making a radio programme called Element covering all issues related to the landscape in Wales.

Lynne loves the variety which her job offers and enjoys the opportunity to introduce new people to the exciting world of engineering. Juggling so many careers can be tricky at times though, especially as she is also a Mum!
